Introduction: According to recent meta-analyses of RCTs, no significant superiority of LAI over oral antipsychotics in preventing rehospitalizations has been demonstrated. On the contrary, the results of mirror- image  studies in patients who met the conditions for clinical use of LAIs showed a strong superiority of LAIs.

Objectives: In this paper, we focused on experiences from our clinical practice and presented a sample of 15 patients who were followed up at our psychiatric outpatient clinic from the beginning of February to October 15 of this year. All 15 have been on S-LAI therapy for more than two years.

Long-acting injectable versus oral antipsychotics in schizophrenia: A systematic review and meta-analysis of mirror-image studies)

Methods: We presented the rate of hospitalizations, compliance, regularity of follow up visits since the start of S-LAI administration,  as well as satisfaction with the current level of functioning measured by the GAF score.

Results: The obtained results indicate a distinct benefit in the use of S-LAI vs oral antipsychotics in preventing  rehospitalizations and relapses. Thus confirming the results from mirror-image studies as well as the fact that the population in mirror-image studies better reflects the population receiving LAIs in clinical practice.

Conclusions: Our clinical experience is  a small contribution that confirms the results of mirror - image studies on the superiority of  LAIs over oral antipsychotics in preventing rehospitalizations and improving quality of life.
